The Smart Traffic Circle

Smart Traffic Circles, which has issued (US 10,269,243), deals with driver and pedestrian safety near road/street accident sites. In addition, it makes more efficient the first-responder management of a reported accident by computing which first-responder vehicle is closest and giving that vehicle management functionality over the other responding vehicles.

With regard to first response reaction, an accident report initially determines the accident location which drives the choice of management vehicle. In addition, accident report data is used to help determine what types of first-response vehicles are required, such as ambulance, fire truck, and so on. The system then directs first- response vehicles to the accident location, assisting them by sending out advanced directional guidance to vehicles ahead aimed at clearing the way.

Meanwhile, the system, using the accident site data, formulates two concentric geo-fenced areas. The larger area is used to identify when vehicles have entered it and are heading toward the accident site. The smaller area is used to identify when pedestrians have entered it and are heading toward the accident site. In either or both cases, drivers and/or pedestrians are given directives via mobile devices or vehicle communications to take a route which avoids the accidents site area.
